Howdy all,
Well, it has finally arrived....Spring Break! I know that it was a little chaotic here today, what with everyone full to the brim with anticipation and energy. Hopefully we can get some of that energy out of the next week. Additionally, I asked a favor of the students to complete something over the break. I sent home a packet of materials that each student can fill out as they READ their chosen book. This is NOT an assignment, but rather a favor to show that they are committed to increasing their reading skills. No one is required to complete the packet, but the fourth grade teachers thought that it would be helpful for them to use as they read. Additionally, our scheduled Math test was canceled today due to a lack of understanding...mostly about long division. I asked that everyone take some time to make practice problems up and hone their long division skills. We will take a day or two when we return from break to review, but the test will be given shortly after we return, so it would be in everyone's best interest to PRACTICE. If you are able to sit down with your student and help, a technique that we have been using to understand the steps follows:
D (division) Does
M (multiplication) McDonald's
S (subtract) Serve
C (check) Cheese-
B (bring down) Burgers
Each student is familiar with this formula, so they should be able to explain it more thoroughly to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be checking my email regularly throughout the break. I hope everyone has a blast and gets out for some well-deserved exercise and free-time (I know I will)!!!
Packing up and shipping out,
